Unofficial Lake Alice Records . . .

During my 100 mile attempt last week, Jake Krohn and I started talking about Unofficial Lake Alice Records that have fueled local running folklore for centuries (or at least decades).  We decided somewhere around lap 40 that we would do our best to unearth these mythical feats.  Jake had a good lead on one such record - the fastest single lap.  He remembered hearing a rumor that long-time runner Joel Rovang had once completed a lap in just over 5 minutes.  Considering Lake Alice is 1.15 miles around, this would truly be an incredible feat.  Being the masterful facebook investigator I am, I immediately looked to the popular social-networking site for answers.  Sure enough, Jake was right.  After connecting with the local running legend (who now resides in Moorhead), I confirmed this to be true.  The actual time was 5:27.  With one unofficial record in the books, Jake and I have decided to launch the Bureau of Unofficial Lake Alice Records.  Unfortunately, the 100 mile bike attempt below will not be included.  Hopefully "Attempt II" will.

  2. FFAR may be interested in STRAVA.com ; it is a way to track your workouts, but also lets you compare fastest times on local routes. It looks like a fun way to compare and compete with people in your area.
